Our Leadership


Before becoming a Bishop of the Free Methodist Church, David Roller was Area Director for Latin America. He and his wife Yvonne began their work as Free Methodist missionaries in Mexico in 1980, where they ministered for 17 years. In January 1997 David was appointed to the position of Area Director for Latin America. It was then that the Rollers and their two children Thad and Vangie moved to Santiago, Chile. In his role, David was responsible for Free Methodist World Missions administration and leadership development in 21 Latin American countries, giving special attention to the 15 young mission districts in Latin America, which are experiencing rapid growth.

Yvonne RollerFollowing his election to the office of Bishop at General Conference in 2007, Bishop Roller was appointed to oversee the United Kingdom Conference. In this role he meets with our National Leadership Team in England two or three times a year.

The other Conferences Bishop Roller has oversight responsibilities for are: Latin America Area and Eastern Unites States (Acts 12:24, Alabama-Georgia, Genesis, Gulf Coast, Keystone, New England, New South, Pittsburgh, South Atlantic).

  The NLT have oversight of the Free Methodist work in the UK until May 2020.

Rev John Townley   is the father figure of Light and Life, Cornwall. He pioneered the work which now includes 4 churches in West Cornwall.  John moved to St Austell in East Cornwall where 2 further churches were planted in Liskeard and Bodmin.  John has now moved to Bristol and is planting a church there.  John is the Lead NLT member and his speciality is church-planting.  Click here for John's testimony.

Rev Andrew Gardner   is Senior Pastor of our largest church in the North West, the Fulwood Free Methodist Church in Preston, Lancashire. Andrew is Chair of the Ministerial Board and has special responsibility for ministerial appointments, educational development and pastoral issues.  Read more about Andrew here.

Rev Michael Bretton   is the newest member of the National Leadership Team, having been voted into the team at Annual Conference 2018.  Michael is the Senior Pastor at the Helston Light & Life Church, Cornwall.  Michael has growing responsibilities on the NLT, the first of which is looking into an internship programme and reviewing our Conference structure and effectiveness.
